Scientific Title: Pilot study of wearable biomonitors to explore the behavioural and environmental context of canine seizures
Study Investigator: Dr. Fiona James

Purpose of the Clinical Study
Idiopathic epilepsy (IE) is the most common neurological disorder diagnosed in dogs. IE has a significant negative impact on affected dogs and their owners’ quality of life. Through the use of wearable technologies for both pets and owners, we can increase our understanding of epileptic canine behaviour and gain insight to better predict future seizure occurrence.
Is Your Pet Eligible?
Dogs between the ages of 2-7 years:
- Dogs with a confirmed idiopathic epilepsy diagnosis
- Dogs that are neurotypical with no other health concerns/underlying conditions
Visits / Samples Required
Wearable technology will be provided to each dog and owner. A 48-hour recording will be completed at home and equipment returned to OVC. There will also be behavioural questionnaires to complete (REB# 22-05-012).
Financial Incentives
All costs for this study (consult fee, actigraphy, EEG recording +/- sedation and analysis) will be covered.
Funding is generously provided by OVC Pet Trust.
